Safety on the Interwebs

Being safe on the internet is a tough task. There are people who lose everything because they gave out just a little bit too much personal information on the internet. Here are a few ways to be safe. 1) Don't give out your password for anything ever, even on an online game that you don't play anymore, because there is more information in your old Runescape account about you than you think. 2) Don't fall for a scam, I'm sure that e-mail from the prince of Norway is tempting to open and reply to, but the sad truth on the internet is that if it looks too good to be true, it probably is. 3) Try not to use the same password for everything you do on the internet, because if you do accidently let your password slip, someone out there will try to find a way to connect your exposed Youtube with your Yahoo, Facebook, and any other of your accounts. 4) Never give out your address, because there are plenty of creeps in the world we call Earth.

Wow...

I can't believe I'm just now getting around to doing the Choosing a Topic Blog. Hi my name is Mitchell, and I am making a game. Breaking news? I think so. The game I'm working on is a couple of minigames from various genres. The topic of the game is Terrorism. Yay I finally got a link to work like I wanted it to!!!

Back from the Snow

The past week has been nothing but snow days, so we are starting to get a little bit behind. Today we are going to continue with the paper proto-typing, oh what fun. We are having quite a bit of trouble finding a way to link each individual minigame together in a plot/story kind of way.

Paper Proto

The last time I was in my globaloria class we worked on our paper proto-types, but Blogger was down so I was unable to upload the blog at that time. We have a couple of the frames in paper proto-type form. I find that making a paper proto-type harder than actually programming in flash.

BOLD, not bold, BOLD...

We are creating the game with a demographic of 14-18. The game takes place in places like the post office and the airport. It will teach people about being safe from terrorists. The game is better than a quiz for two reasons, one is it does not require previous knowledge on the subject, second is that a quiz isn't a real game. You just lost the game.

Minigame 1 Done

I have finished my first minigame, the minigame which I speak of involves you trying to keep suspicious packages from reaching the public. The mail comes down from the top of the screen and you have to hit all of the mail that has been tainted, and if you hit a peice of clean mail or let a piece of tainted mail get through YOU LOSE . I also put in a timer at the right side of the screen. P.S. If anybody knows anybody that likes to switch the keys around, please give them a harsh scolding, thank you.

Terrydon

Say hello to my personal mascot Terrydon! (He was drawn in flash so please don't laugh.) Still trying to program the first mini game. I can't seem to get some of the images to move, notice I said some. It seems kind of random which ones are moving and which ones aren't right now. There isn't really anything else I want to say so bye. ALL HAIL TERRYDON!!!

Creation of a game

I have started working on the game, and things are going pretty good. I haven't had any real problems with flash, and I already have a game in the works. The current minigame is about the threat of viruses and bombs in the mail. The next game will be a puzzle game, (I am having some problems with the blogger writing tool so I am sorry but bye...)

The game has begun

I have started on our game(NAME CHANGED TO TERROR DEFENSE). The type of game is actually a collection of different little minigames. The title scene is almost done. The title scene includes the name of the game, icons for the minigames scrolling along the bottom, and there will be a button linking to the next page. I have two for minigames, the first of which is a bomb inside a suitcase and you have to identify it from among a group of random luggage, the second of which is a game where there is a bomb inside a building where you are given clues to the location.

Review

IT'S FRIDAY EVERYONE!!!!! And I need a break from school, this week has been a little bit tougher than usual ( If shoveling a truckload of mulch and having to spread it EVENLY three times isn't a tiring task I don't know what is). The days have gone by and I have completed some work, such as re-arranging the ideas for our game

Dun dundun DUNNN...

I have completed all eight of the different steps in the mini game creating process, but this means I must move on to a much more difficult task (start ominous music)... MAKING A GAME. Oh no, whatever shall I do? Sure we have the basis for the game down, but what type of genre should I make it? I think a Tower Defense-like game could be pulled off. Then again I might do a side scroller, although I have yet to learn how to make the "camera" follow the main character. But I have grasped the concept of making the frame continue whenever an object exits the screen, so I guess I'll do that instead.

KILLER RABBIT, RUN AWAY!

Today I fixed my code for the minigame project, every little detail had to be in place. I learned that what was causing the malfunction was a missplacement in one of the IF codes. I have now moved on to step 6, which is adding the score. I find the whole score keeping process a bit annoying. I am currently trying to make it to where the score goes up whenever the rabbit and carrot collide, not EVERY frame like it is currently doing.

WE HAVE A TEAM!!!

We have our team name, The Forge Masters, inspired by my love of the new forge mode in Reach. Our game, despite the name, has nothing to do with building maps. We have selected bioterrorism to be our main topic. I have done some research too, such as the first case of bio terrorism was when the Assyrians spread rye infected with ergot (Highly toxic mold) in the wells of their enemies around the 6th century BC.

Another day...

Friday is here. I edited my profile some, I added what my favorite animals were from the main species (Mammal, Reptile, Bird, Fish, and Insects/Arachnids). I haven't done a whole lot of researching though, and I'm still trying to come up with a good team name.

Teams

So I got my partner today... Brian. I'm not good at working with others. No team name at the moment ( I want it to be the BSAA). We played some games dealing with civics today, I put my name in as Someone McPerson. We have an idea of the main focus of the game, terrorism. Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo I can't really come with anything else to write about at the moment so I'm just elongate some word. Gooooooooooooooooooood-byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

Game Ideas?

Hi everyone, I am having alot of trouble with coming up with an idea for a Civics and News game, although I do have some ideas for game in the STEM's group. I just find science and math to be a whole lot easier than politics. Need to come up with an idea. Thinking, thinking... how about a game about running for president? I don't know what to do honestly. Last year I was able to come up with a game right off the bat, but I was allowed to choose any topic I wanted. Maybe I should make a game about bio terrorism (Resident Evil is educational, no matter what anyone says).

Playing to (loading...)

Today we played some games and are going to have to review two of them. I have had problems though, almost none of the games are loading. But oh well. I am also trying to transfer my game from last year onto my current page so that I can see what everyone thinks, although I have no idea what to do for this years game.

Papers

I got my papers in today and have started to edit my wiki page.
http://myglife.org/usa/wv/gehswiki/index.php/User:Majini_Slayer. For those of you who don't know what a Majini is it is a "zombie" from Resident Evil. I am planning on adding my game from last year to my page this year, linking the games I play to their wikipedia pages, and various other things.

What expectations do you have for this year in Globaloria?

This is my second year, and I hope to get to make another game. I learned alot in globaloria last year so I expect that I will be able to learn just as much this year. I hope that there is something that I've learned from the countless hours of playing Fallout and Halo, but really the most you can learn from great games is that a game of that magnitude requires a massive amount of work and extreme dedication.

Done?

I think I am done with my game (W00T). Check it out on my wiki page.
